TRAINIEESHIP BURKINA FASO

Working with the "Convoy of Hope", the Foundation sponsored 2013 the training of 12 adolescents in Burkina Faso to become motor cycle mechanics. "Convoi of Hope" has been working since 2007 with a village school in Saaba (near the capital Ouagadougou) seeking to provide their graduates with job opportunities.

The school had the spatial conditions and our funding provided them with comprehensive material equipment and staff for the two-year diploma course.

Shortly after the start of the programme it became apparent that the training had to be shortened to one year, as the apprentices were eager to use their newly gained skills on the street and to turn them into cash immediately. Unfortunately, none of the six girls completed the course.

After the one-year course, six young mechanics received their state diploma and found work in garages. As it was not possible to invest the remaining funds in a follow-up project, they were channelled into a different project.
