EMPOWERING WOMEN IN ETHOPIA

The Vincentian Sisters of Untermarchtal are supporting disadvantaged people in Ethiopia. Women's equality is largely ignored here. As a result important resources for the economic and social development in society are lost.

In order to improve their economic situation, women are trained and supported with microcredits to start their own businesses. These one-year projects have already been successfully implemented in other regions of Ethiopia. Mothers with children are particularly affected: they live in constant financial insecurity and have to survive on less than 500 birr ($10) per month. They have no access to education, healthcare, or loans. Many live in informal dwellings or on the streets.

In 2025-2026, we are running a joint microcredit project for 31 women under the age of 27 in the Kolfe Keranio suburb of Addis Ababa. In addition to the women entrepreneurs, around 600 people will benefit indirectly from this project.
